US Weighs Quitting UN Human Rights Council; Council Has Been Accused of Bias against Israel

The Trump administration is seriously considering pulling the United States out of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Newsmax website reports today (February 25, 2017).

"There's been a series of requests coming from the secretary of state's office that suggests that he [Trump] is questioning the value of the U.S. belonging to the Human Rights Council," a former State Department official said.

The council has been accused of bias against Israel and has come under fire for including such nations as China and Saudi Arabia, which have records of human-rights abuses.

A final decision for U.S. withdrawal from the council would involve President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
