Perry's Dad Apologizes for Anti-Semitic Sermon; Had Said "Having Money Makes Jews Jealous"

The Associated Press website reports today (January 12, 2012) that a suburban Cleveland church -- where the father of pop star Katy Perry was a guest pastor and delivered an anti-Semitic sermon -- has released an apology in which he says he regrets his "hurtful and ugly language" regarding Jews.

Pastor Paul Endrei of the Church on the Rise in Westlake said the Rev. Keith Hudson -- Perry's father -- meant to compliment Jewish people's prosperity when he said "having money makes Jews jealous."

In the apology released yesterday, Hudson -- emphasizing that he is not an anti-Semite -- said, "I apologize for the hurt that I caused my Jewish friends."

The Simon Wiesenthal Center -- a Jewish human rights organization based in Los Angeles -- had earlier denounced Hudson's remarks as being anti-Semitic.
