Over 20,000 Deaths in Turkey, Syria Quake; Thousands Still Missing under Rubble, Bldgs.

 The death toll in the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria this week has climbed even higher: over 20,000 people are dead, the Business Insider website reports today (Feb. 9, 2023).


Thousands are believed to still be missing under rubble and collapsed buildings. 


Rescuers continued to pull survivors out of t he rubble for days after the initial quake. In one case, an 8-year-old boy was rescued from under a collapsed building after being stuck for 52 hours.
