Washington Police Officer Nabbed for Terrorism; Transit Employee Is First US Officer Tied to ISIS

A police officer in Washington, D.C. was arrested today (August 3, 2016) for allegedly attempting to aid the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) after a seven-year investigation, according to the Telegraph (British) website.

Nicholas Young, 36, a convert to Islam, was the first police officer in the United States arrested in connection with ISIS.

Young was a transit officer, responsible for patrolling the underground and bus systems of the U.S. capital. A spokesman for Washington's transport system -- known as Metro -- said Young has now been fired.

His arrest came after he bought $250 worth of gift cards for mobile messaging apps -- a popular form of communications for the terrorist group -- with the intention of aiding ISIS overseas, prosecutors said.
