Attacker at Indonesian Church Injures Priest; Knife-Wielding Attacker Also Had a Backpack

Indonesian police are investigating a suspected terror attack by a knife-wielding assailant on a priest during Mass at a church yesterday, and a bomb squad was deployed to determine whether the attacker's backpack contained explosives, the Reuters website reports today (August 29, 2016).

The priest and his attacker suffered minor injures, according to police in Median city, Sumatra.

"A terrorism act was carried out Sunday morning at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church," said Rina Sari Ginting, spokeswoman for Median police.

Indonesia has more Muslims than any other country in the world. Although the vast majority practice a moderate form of Islam, the country has had an increase of terrorist attacks in recent years, due to the fanatical (anti-Christian) propaganda of Islamist militant groups, such as the Islamic State (IS).
