The boyfriend of a 20-year-old woman found hanging from a tree in the central city of Layyah in Pakistan has been arrested after confessing that he raped and murdered her, the Big News Network website reports today (June 22, 2014).
The murder of Muzammil Bibi is similar to a series of recent sex crimes that have sparked public outcry and protests across the border in India.
According to the woman's boyfriend -- named by Pakistani police as Muhammad Saqib -- he raped and killed her after she refused to have sex with two of his friends. He told police he hung her from the tree in order to make her death look like a suicide.
Police are investigating whether she was also raped by the two other men, who remain at large and are the subjects of a police manhunt.
