Seattle U. Urged to Cancel Angela Davis' Invite; Over 6,000 Say She Violates Teachings of Christ

In the last 72 hours, more than 6,200 people have signed a petition urging Fr. Stephen Sundborg, SJ, President of Seattle University, to cancel the October 17th speech by -- and reception for -- 1960s radical and communist Angela Davis at the Catholic institution of higher learning, the Christian Newswire website reports today (September 23, 2013).

The petition is sponsored by the Tradition Family Property (TFP) Student Action -- a group that promotes moral values on college campuses.

"That a Catholic educational institution would be willing to invite and promote a speaker who stands in stark opposition to the teachings of Christ and His Church stuns the common sense of the Catholic faithful and Puget Sound residents alike," the petition states.

"It would be difficult to find a speaker who contradicts the teaching of the Catholic Church on more levels and more deeply than Angela Davis," said TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie. "Twice she ran for vice president of the United States on the Communist Party USA ticket. She is a notorious feminist, socialist, and Marxist. To this very day, she engages in pro-abortion, pro-same-sex 'marriage' activism."
