On the morning of August 18, 2012, a young Muslim woman, 18, living in Kerourien, France called police, because she was beaten by her uncle for not observing Ramadan, according to the Europe News website.
The uncle -- who came to the house from Mayotte, France -- was celebrating the end of Ramadan with relatives, but became angry when he learned that his niece did not observe the religious fast.
He struck his niece several times with his fist and a broom. The woman fled to her bedroom to protect herself.
Police arrived at the house and took the young woman to safety in a hotel. She suffered from injuries requiring her to take two days off from work. Police plan to interview her uncle soon.
