Outgoing President of the European Union (EU) Donald Tusk held a press conference after German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen was nominated as EU president, the Euro News website reports today (July 3, 2019).
The European Council nominated von der Leyen for the position.
The decision now lies in the European Parliament's hands, as it must approve von der Leyen's nomination by an absolute majority.
"I'm really happy about it. After all, Europe is a woman..." Tusk said of von der Leyen's nomination.
