Voting in national elections in Greece began today (July 7, 2019), and opinion polls forecast Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' SYRIZA party will lose to the conservative New Democracy party.
Tsipras appealed to voters today, arguing "the country's progress should not be disrupted."
Tsipras' ruling SYRIZA party is expected to lose in favor of the New Democracy party, headed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
An exit poll credited New Democracy with 42 percent of the votes and SYRIZA with 30 percent.
