A new poll of 1,137 adults released this month shows that doctors, teachers, scientists, and members of the military are viewed more positively than clergy, the Religion News website reports today (July 17, 2019).
The less frequently people attend church, the more negative their views.
Among those who attend church less than once a month, only 42 percent said they had a positive view of clergy members.
While frequent church attenders still hold clergy in high regard -- about 75 percent viewed them positively -- they gave them only passing grades on several personal attributes.
