Pope Arrives in Egypt Bearing Message of Peace; Plans to Lend Support to Coptic Orth. Christians

Pope Francis arrived in Egypt today (April 28, 2017), bearing a message of peace and reconciliation, according to the NY Times website.

The country is under a state of emergency after suicide bombings, attributed to Islamic State (IS) militants, killed at least 44 people in Coptic Orthodox Christian churches on Palm Sunday.

It is Francis' 18th trip outside of Italy in the four years of his papacy, and his seventh to a predominantly Muslim nation.

In his visit to Egypt, the pope plans to lend his support to Coptic Orthodox Christians, reach out to Muslim leaders, and meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
