Erdogan Wins Power-Grab Turkey Referendum; Opposition Appeals Results,Claims Voter Fraud

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed victory in a referendum today (April 16, 2017), granting him sweeping new powers, according to the Independent (British) website.

The state-run Anadolu news agency claimed that 51 percent of voters had sided with the "Yes" campaign, ushering in the most radical change to Turkey's political system in modern times.

But the main opposition -- the Republican People's Party -- said they would demand a recount of up to 40 percent of the vote and appeal the results due to voter fraud.

Erdogan's victory allows him to become a powerful dictator by replacing Turkey's parliamentary democracy with an autocratic independent presidency.
