A car bomb explosion ripped through a police station in southeastern Turkey today (August 26, 2016), resulting in mass casualties, according to the Times of Israel website.
At least 11 police officers were killed and 70 people injured in the incident in the town of Cizre -- not far from Turkey's border with Syria -- state media reported.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack which was the latest in a string of bombings that have targeted police or military vehicles and installations in Turkey.
The official Anadolu news agency blamed the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) for the blast. Members of PKK have carried out several car bomb attacks on police and military in recent months, as Kurds attempt to establish an independent state in Turkey.
