Israel Forbids Palestinians' Entry During Passover; Holiday Marks Jews' Exodus from Slavery in Egypt

Israel has banned Palestinians from entering Jerusalem and the rest of the country during the Passover holiday, which begins at sunset tonight (April 14, 2014) and ends on April 21, the Euro News website reports.

With a few exceptions for emergency medical situations, no Palestinians are allowed to cross into Israel from the occupied West Bank.

Israel frequently bans Palestinians during Jewish holidays, saying crowds could be vulnerable to attack.

Passover commemorates the Jewish people's exodus from slavery in Egypt in ancient times.
