Boston Bombing Suspects' Sister Faces Pot Charge; Pleads Not Guilty to Possessing, Selling Marijuana

Bella Tsarnaeva -- the sister of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects -- pleaded not guilty today (May 28, 2013) to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, in a superior court courtroom in Hackensack, New Jersey, according to the Global Post website.

She was arrested in December 2012 after police responded to a domestic violence report at her home in Fairview, New Jersey and found marijuana, according to court documents.

Both Tsarnaeva, 24, and her live-in boyfriend, Ahmad Khalil, were indicted in April on the pot charges. Khalil also pleaded not guilty today.

Tsarnaeva's brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar, are accused of detonating two explosives near the finish line at the Boston Marathon on April 15, killing three people and injuring hundreds.

Zubeidat Tsarnaeva -- the mother of Bella, Tamerlan, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaeva -- was arrested in 2012 for shoplifting $1,624 worth of women's clothing from a department store in the Natick (Massachusetts) Mall. She fled the United States, returning to Russia to avoid her court trial for the shoplifting.
