The Catholic Culture website reports today (February 23, 2012) that an archbishop in Poland has plunged himself in controversy with a claim that the country is "witnessing a systematic attack on the Church from various libertine, atheist, and Masonic spheres."
Archbishop Jozef Michalik of Przemyskl -- who made the remark in a Lenten message -- immediately came under fire from political leaders who charged that he was aggravating divisions in society.
Media spokesmen angrily denied the archbishop's claim that Catholic voices are being excluded from public discussions.
Tadeusz Bartos -- a former cleric in Poland -- responded harshly to Archbishop Michalik's statement, saying: It was a "language of hate." He added, "It showed ingratitude towards the state which favors the Church."
