Southwest Airlines Operations Back to Normal; Canceled over 15,000 Flights in Just over a Week

Southwest Airlines resumed normal operations on Dec. 30 after canceling more than 15,000 flights in just over a week, according to Flight Aware, which tracks flight status in real time, the USA Today website reports.

"We appreciate the dedicated work of the Southwest team to restore our schedule, and we anticipate minimal disruptions for the weekend," the airlines said in a statement Dec. 30.

Southwest's mass flight cancellations forced many passengers to improvise. The cancellations also left thousands of bags lost and left in piles at airports.
