The parliament of New Zealand has passed a law banning smoking by anyone born in 2009 or later, My Modern Met website reports today (Dec. 17, 20222).
"We want to make sure young people never start smoking, so we make it an offense to sell or supply tobacco products to new cohorts of youth," said Associate Health Minister Ayesha Verrall.
He added, "People aged 14 when the new law comes into effect will never be able to legally purchase tobacco."
