British AF Jets Strike Two Key IS Positions in Iraq; Serve Key Role in Retaking Rabia Border Crossing

British Royal Air Force (RAF) jets today (September 30, 2014) made their first air strikes on two strategic positions in Iraq, according to the Euro News website.

The UK is the latest nation to join an international effort to destroy the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Two Tornado jets were on an "armed reconnaissance mission" when they responded to a call from Kurdish troops for assistance in northwest Iraq, the Ministry of Defense (MOD) said.

Kurdish sources said the RAF strikes were integral to retaking "an important border crossing" at Rabia, near the border with Syria.
