Suffolk Students Against Foxman as Grad. Speaker; Opposed US Agreeing Armenian Purge as Genocide

A multitude of students at Suffolk University in Boston are criticizing the selection of Abraham Foxman -- national director of the (Jewish) Anti-Defamation League -- as commencement speaker, the Inside Higher Ed website reports today (April 23, 2014).

The students object to Foxman's opposition to US congressional recognition of the the killings of one and one-half million Armenians by Ottoman Turks during World War I as genocide. Other students say he has defended the ethnic profiling of Muslims.

Students have launched an online petition urging the university to reconsider the choice of Foxman, who is also scheduled to receive an honorary doctoral degree at the commencement on May 17.

As a result of the student criticisms of Foxman, the university released a statement that said: "It is our hope that Mr. Foxman's personal story as a Holocaust survivor and attorney who has dedicated his life to public service will inspire our graduates as they embark on their professional careers."
