Iran paid bounties to the Taliban to kill U.S. troops in Afgfhanistan, the Insider website reports today (August 17, 2020).
The bounty plot was cited by U.S. officials as part of the justification for the drone strike that killed Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassam Soleimani.
The report on Iran comes after reports a few months ago revealed that Russia had also paid bounties to the Taliban to kill U.S. troops.
U.S.intelligence personnel identified payments linked to six attacks carried out by the Taliban in 2019.
