A third-year Northeastern University student majoring in economics was detained at Boston's Logan International Airport and removed from the U.S., the CNN website reports today (January 21, 2020).
Mohammad Shahab Dehghani Hossein, 24, was refused entry into the U.S. on his student visa and was deported last night, his attorney, Kerry Doyle, said.
The deportation occurred despite an emergency stay granted by a Massachusetts district court judge, Doyle said.
Democratic presidential candidate and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren tweeted on the issue: "Shahab Dehghani is an Iranian student with a valid F1 visa, returning to finish his education. His deportation must be halted, and we must fight the Trump administration's xenophobic policies."
