Erdogan Vows He'll Protect Christians in Syria; Says Churches Ruined by Turkey to Be Rebuilt

Turkey President Tayyip Recep Erdogan told media at the White House yesterday that Turkey will restore damaged Syrian churches, as Christian communities along the border in Northeastern Syria are feeling vulnerable due to the Turkish aggression, the Christian Post website reports today (November 15, 2019).

Erdogan met with U.S. President Donald Trump and several GOP senators today in a meeting that was held to "clear the air" amid congressional criticism of Turkey's military operation in Northeastern Syria.

Operation Peace Spring, launched last month after Trump announced a pullback of U.S. troops from the region in question, targets Kurdish fighters who played a key role in helping the U.S. defeat the Islamic State.

The Turkish government accuses the Syrian Democratic Forces of being terrorists because of links to the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
