The Global Post website reports today (October 12, 2011) that Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Christian Church blasted authorities this week for attacks on October 9 that left 25 people dead.
The church accused Egyptian authorities of allowing attacks by Muslims against Christians to continue without punishment.
Pope Shenouda III -- the Coptic Christian spiritual leader -- also declared three days of mourning and fasting for the victims from October 11 through 13.
Clashes on October 9 between Egyptian security forces and several hundred protesters began after Christians tried to stage a peaceful sit-in.
