New data from the federal government shows that spending on new cnstruction of churches and other houses of worship increased by 17 percent from June 2022,the Christianity Today website reports today(Jan. 31, 2026).
This is the first serious rebound in church construction in 20 years.
Spending went up in 2022, 2023,2024, and 2025.The reasons for the rebound are unclear. Several consultants said that many of the expansions are "multipurposed space," including childcare facilities, coworking spaces, and coffee shops.
