Sweden became NATO's newest member yesterday (March 7, 2024), upon depositing its instrument of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization with the Government of the U.S. in Washington, D.C.,the NATOHQ/news website reports today (March 8, 2024).
With Sweden's accession, NATO now has 32 countries among its membeers.
NATO Secretary Gweneral Jens Stoltenberg said: "This is a historic day. Sweden will now take its rightful place at NATO's table, with an equal say in shaping NATO policies and decisions..."
