Pope Admits Clergy Kept Nuns as Sex Slaves; Church Roots View "Women as Second Class"

Pope Francis admitted yesterday that clerics have sexually abused nuns, and in at least one case nuns were kept as sex slaves, the BBC website reports today (February 6, 2019).

He said that his predecessor, Pope Benedict, was forced to shut down an entire congregation of nuns who were being abused by priests.

This is believed to be the first time that Pope Francis has acknowledged the sexual abuse of nuns by the clergy.

He said the Church was attempting to address the problem, but it is "still going on." He admitted that the Church had an issue, the roots of which lie in "seeing women as second class."
