Churches Worldwide Ring Bells Daily for Aleppo; Tribute to Thousands Slaughtered in Syrian City

More than 500 churches around the world are ringing their bells each day in tribute to the thousands of civilians being slaughtered in Aleppo, the Christian Today website reports today (October 23, 2016).

The Syrian city has been under brutal siege for weeks, intensified by Russian and Syrian bombing of rebel-held areas that began last month.

The Lutheran Kallio Church in Helsinki, Finland began the bell tolling on October 12. It has now been joined by hundreds of churches across the globe, including congregations in Britain, America, and Australia.

Zeid Ra'ad al Hussein -- the UN commissioner for human rights -- accused the Russian and Syrian government bombings of civilians in Aleppo as being "war crimes" that "constitute crimes against humanity."
