Pope Francis Celebrates Mass Before 1M in Philly; Homily:Love Thrives in Acts through Family,God

With a simple message of love and family, Pope Francis celebrated Mass in front of nearly a million people in Philadelphia today (September 27, 2015) and wrapped up his historic six-day journey to meet the American people, the New Jersey website reports.

On a massive stage capped by a golden arc, the pope used his homily to remind the crowd that love is born from the simplest of actions, family embodies the core of that love, and God is revealed through it.

The pontiff packed several events into his final day in the United States, including a visit with inmates in a local prison and a private meeting with victims of clergy sex abuse. He also announced a new Vatican tribunal to prosecute bishops who failed to protect victims of abuse.

The majority of the people who endured long lines and heavy security to line a mile-long stretch of Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway were focused on the opportunity to go to a Mass celebrated by the leader of the Catholic Church. Pope Francis flew back to Rome this evening.
