IFRC Grants Greece Extra 9M Euros for Migrants; Will Benefit Migrant Rescue Operation Off Lesbos

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cross Societies (IFRC) says it will increase the aid it gives to Greece, the Euro News website reports today (November 3, 2015).

It comes after the Greek coastguard dealt with a huge rescue operation off the island of Lesbos. In terms of numbers, it is the biggest rescue of the migrant crisis so far.

The International Organization of Migration (IOM) estimates that at least 435 people drowned in October alone trying to reach Greece across the Aegean Sea.

It hopes 200,000 migrants will benefit from the nine million euros extra funding, which will pay for migrant aid and staff.
